# How and where to store the SEED phrase

#### **So we come to a very important piece of information**:

**A SEED phrase** is an access to your wallet, which means that if someone gets it, they will get your money too! That’s why it’s mandatory to make a backup of a SEED phrase and keep it as the most important secret.

When you open your cryptocurrency wallet they offer you to save the SEED phrase, and you **should** do it **100%** of the time! No SEED phrase — no money!\

Let’s break down examples of how NOT to keep your SEED phrase:

* create a folder on your desktop called «**My SEED Phrase**»;
* write the SEED phrases on a post-it note and stick it in a visible place; 
* send the SEED phrase to «**yourself**» on Telegram or other social networks; 
* write the SEED phrase in the notes on your phone. It would be safe to write the SEED phrase on a piece of paper or a device that is not connected to the Internet and put it in a safe deposit box or bank deposit box. You can also divide the SEED phrase into several parts and store them separately.

Now you know about two ways to store cryptocurrency: on **centralized exchanges** or «**hot wallet**» and **non-custodial** or «**warm wallet**». But there is another way — **hardware** or «**cold storage**».
